Start an Early Breast Cancer Preventions
Breast cancer preventions are taken to lower the chance of getting breast cancer. By doing breast cancer preventions, hopefully will lower the number of deaths caused by breast cancer. Making changes in your daily life may help reduce your risk of breast chance. A healthy diet, cautious use of selected antioxidants, exercise, and weight reduction can also help reduce the chance of developing breast cancer. To date, the most important strategy in improving survival is still breast cancer screening and early detection. Regular mammograms, together with monthly breast self-exams, are the best ways for women to protect themselves.
Breast cancer preventions for women with an average risk includes: Limit the amount of alcohol you drink or better not drink at all. Exercise most days of the week, aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise on most days of the week. Limit postmenopausal hormone therapy because combination hormone therapy may increase the risk of breast cancer. And the last one is maintain your healthy weight. For women with high risk or breast cancer, they should do: Preventive medications (chemoprevention). Estrogen-blocking medications help reduce the risk of breast cancer. Options include tamoxifen and raloxifene (Evista). Women with a very high risk of breast cancer may choose to have their healthy breasts surgically removed (prophylactic mastectomy). They may also choose to have their healthy ovaries removed (prophylactic oophorectomy) to reduce the risk of both breast cancer and ovarian cancer.
Research from Korea shows that soy foods may help prevent women from getting a breast cancer. This study only showed an association between women who had breast cancer compared to those who didn’t. It does not imply cause and effect, and so it can’t guarantee that a diet high in soy will prevent breast cancer. Other foods that might play a helping hand in preventing breast cancer include: Cruciferous veggies such as broccoli, cauliflower, collard greens and Brussels sprouts. Flax or sesame seeds, if you eat them ground up (instead of whole), you’ll absorb them and their powerful phytonutrient “lignans” better. A fish oil supplement may increase your intake of fatty fish like sardines, salmon and mackerel. If you want to use the supplement, talk to your doctor first. Although women could not prevent getting diagnosed by breast cancer, it is always better to do early breast cancer preventions.
